“politics, monarchy,
freedom and strife.”
Estremità was - once upon a time - known as Earth. It once played host to the most feared creature of the Animal Kingdom: Humans. Their downfall was knowledge; the urge to know and to be and to create, but they did not know this until it was too late. Such thirst for power plagued them until - when the Day of Reckoning came - they were helpless to stop it.
Life was destroyed. Earth, as it was back then, was left devastated; Mother Nature weeping over the destruction of everything she held dear. Technology was kicked back to where it all began and yet there was hope. Survivors — not many, but survivors all the same. It was like a light in a wave of darkness, and the survivors began to reform everything. To forget what had happened, they renamed Earth to Estremità - ‘End’. It was to be a permanent reminder of what they had done.
Unbeknown to them, Doomsday had created a rift between the Underworld - the Afterlife, whatever you want to call it - and spirits were escaping. Thousands of them, drifting around Estremità and the capital city of Antica, utterly unseen to the human eye. They visited dreams and bonded with people; they became visible in the form of their human’s personality - as an animal. And they were known as Familiars; they were somewhat like pets, but… they weren’t.
With the arrival of Familiars came a new hierarchy system. The King at the time - Pablo Eirinn - rewrote history, calling the new version The Book of Antica. He reformed the way people saw themselves based on the illusion of the former Bible’s Seven Deadly Sins. Changing everything, he became known as Pablo de l’Avarice - Pablo of Greed - and Estremità was changed.
People were now ranked by Sins. Pride, Envy and Wrath were the ‘Greater Sins’ as they called themselves, and Sloth, Lust and Greed were the ‘Lesser Sins’. That made up six - and then there was the ‘Unspeakable Sin’: Gluttony. It was made forbidden to converse with a Sin of Gluttony and life went on; new kings rose and new kings fell until the arrival of King Damien l’Envie.
Damien of Envy was a kinder monarch, no less fierce or controlling like Pablo, but he was kinder. He changed the rules again and made it so that it was no longer illegal to speak to a Gluttony; he kicked the Lesser Sins out of New Antica and forced them to live with Sins of Gluttony in Old Antica, but he was remembered well. With the death of Damien, males from the Greater Sins are now competing for monarchy rights.
